Five Element Acupuncture

The philosophy of the treatment is that our health is dependent upon the smooth and balanced flow of energy, known as Qi, around the body.

The Qi flows through channels called meridians and can be disturbed or blocked by any number of internal or external factors including anxiety, fear, anger or grief; physical trauma; poor diet, over work; hereditary conditions or viral infections. This stagnation of energy can manifest itself in both emotional and physical symptoms that can be significantly reduced or removed with acupuncture. The beauty of the Five Element system, and what continues to makes it relevant to modern life, is that the physical, emotional and mental aspects of the individual are seen as interdependent and are treated as such by the practitioner. The emphasis is placed on inviting patients to take responsibility for their own health and to make lifestyle choices that support and maintain the healing process that is facilitated by the acupuncture.

By inserting fine needles into specific acupuncture points an acupuncturist can stimulate the body’s own healing response, thus encouraging and inviting it to restore its own natural equilibrium. The focus of the practitioner is to improve the overall health and wellbeing of the patient by working on the root cause of their individual dis-ease, rather than the isolated treatment of particular symptoms. Approaching health with a focus on wellness rather than on an absence of dis-ease is one of the strengths of Five Element Acupuncture and many people have regular preventative or maintenance acupuncture treatment to enhance wellness and protect against ill health. Whether you are looking for help with a specific problem or simply to promote your overall health, the emphasis of Five Element Acupuncture is on working towards harmony by allowing the Qi to move freely through the subtle network of meridians in the body.
